Drop Stitch: Lightweight Innovation, Maximum Strength

Drop stitch is an advanced, high-performance 3D engineered textile designed for lightweight, inflatable panels that deliver the strength and rigidity of traditional structural materials—without the weight, bulk, or limitations. Once used primarily in watercraft, this innovative technology is reshaping inflatable design across industries from floating docks and airplane wings to rescue lift bags and inflatable shelters, with countless other advanced applications.

The power of drop stitch performance lies in a precision-built internal core: two fabric layers held apart by tens of thousands of high-tensile fibers. When sealed and pressurized, those fibers lock in place, forming an exceptionally stiff, perfectly flat surface that traditional inflatables simply can’t match.

Engineered with two tightly woven base textile layers—utilizing yarn types based on specific application requirements and material availability—the fabric is reinforced by thousands of precision-aligned drop (pile) yarns that lock the layers together. This configuration creates a highly stable, load-bearing structure with exceptional dimensional accuracy. When laminated with a durable polymer coating, the material becomes fully airtight, delivering a lightweight, compact, and ultra-durable solution for advanced inflatable applications where strength, reliability, and portability are critical.

Originally developed for watercraft, Drop Stitch now drives innovation across industries where strength, reliability, and portability matter most, including military & defense, emergency response, marine recreation, aerospace, medical, and infrastructure applications.
